'How to make an Exploding Box' (foto tutorial)

First of all, measure & cut your card to size. Here I have chosen to make quite a large box. 10cm square so my card was cut to 30cm x 30cm...

Next, take your scoring board & tool & from the edge of your card, score at 10cm, repeat this for all four edges until you have this...

Next, you need to cut out the four corner pieces & discard, so that you are now left with this shape. This is the base & sides to your box. You can glue one of the discarded corners into the centre square (base) for extra rigidity...

Using some papers of your choice, cut out 8x 10cm squares & glue/stick them to the outer & inner sides of your box...

You should now have this...

Now with your chosen stamps, stamp & colour the images ready for cutting out. You may choose to use something else to add to the inside of your box but here, I used my LAVINIA STAMPS to create a little scene...

After you have cut out your characters, you need to create a base in which your characters & scenery can be stuck onto. The main part is slightly smaller (2mm) than the 10cm base to allow room for the sides of the box to come up properly. Here, I cut slits into it to allow me to hide the tabs on the 'hills' underneath it when it comes to sticking it to the inside base of the box...

Once you have stuck the hills in place & the base is glued down, you can start placing your figures. Here I have stuck the figures to the backs of the hills. The fairy has first been stuck onto a thin strip of acetate, which is then folded a cm from the bottom to make a tab, that tab is then glued to the base...the clear acetate strip gives the illusion that the fairy is flying....Your box is now done!

So now you need to make your lid. Just as the pic above shows, cut a piece of card 14.3cm x 14.3cm. Place your card onto your scoring board & from each edge, score at 2cm so that the centre square is now slightly larger than your box, this allows the lid to fit over the box without being too tight. It also allows room for you to cover the inside of the lid if you do so wish. . Fold along your score lines, cut out a thin slice as shown in the above pic (marked in purple). tuck in & glue the tabs down to the inner side of the lid. Once that is done, cover with your chosen papers...

Your Exploding Box is now done!
